Join this intensive indoor/outdoor pastel painting workshop on how to improve your pastel paintings of the landscape. The elusive effects of light on forms, designing better contrasts, layering, strengthening how colors can be employed to new effects, and solving the riddle for developing better understanding of values will all be weaved together with lessons about the history of art and natural world phenomena that will make your work take on a new appearance and believability. Experimental techniques with water and alcohol, working with gesso and pumice, under-paintings and developing new calligraphy will also be explored. Stan’s teaching technique is very direct and easy to grasp allowing for many hours of student/teacher interaction. Demos, slideshows, props, and individual interaction with Stan are all to be expected in this exciting workshop. You will leave the workshop with a new sense of yourself as an artist. Workshop Plan: The first day of the workshop on the evening of Thursday, June 2, 6 – 9 pm will include a demonstration, meet and greet, and a discussion of the workshop plan. Days 2 and 3 of the workshop, Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, 8 am – 4 pm, will include a mix of indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) painting. The final day of the workshop, Sunday, June 5, 9 am – 1 pm, will include a workshop summary and individual critiques that participants can use to further the knowledge learned during the workshop.

This workshop is limited to 18 participants. Registration will be accepted on a first-come basis. You are not registered until we have your deposit and registration form. After the first 18 registrations, we will maintain a waiting list. A deposit is also necessary to hold your place on the wait list.
